Harare was originally the domain of the people of Mambo Neharahwa of Seke, who was also called Haarare (he who does not sleep). By 1890 Mambo Mbare’s people controlled the Kopje area.
When Mambo Gusta arrived with his people and settled in the area now known as Hillside, conflict ensued between the two groups. This resulted in the death of Mambo Mbare.
Mbare’s people moved away from the area and are known to have settled in the Zambezi Valley.
